Stroud resident, Jeanne Berry (pictured above) is standing for the post of Gloucestershire Police and Crime Commissioner.

Standing as the Badger Party candidate, Jeanne is focusing on public safety and the peoples’ right to know what the police are doing to keep the people of Gloucestershire safe. Jeanne has been compelled to stand as the Police Authority and the Chief Constable are refusing to acknowledge the risks associated with the planned night time shooting of badgers using high velocity bullets which is due to take place in the autumn. Jeanne is a seasoned campaigner frustrated by a lack of openness amongst public bodies.

Jeanne’s campaign is based on three key pledges:

  • To make the public’s right to know a priority for the police
  • To give those without a voice, both people and animals, support and protection
  • To take only half the £65,000 salary and put the rest back into front line policing

Jeanne says:
“I’m standing for this key post because there has been a wall of silence over the government planned cull of badgers in Gloucestershire. There is a real danger that people out walking at night or early in the morning could be shot by accident as has happened previously when a teenager was tragically  killed by night time shooting. The Police and the Police Authority are refusing to let local people know where and when the night time shooting will take place. I just can’t stand back and let this wall of silence go unchallenged.”
